NVivo is a good package for coding and organizing the narrative data, especially if you have a medium- or large-sized sample.

I've used both NVivo and Atlas.ti. You can basically use both in carrying out similar analytical tasks.

However, I personally prefer the use of NVivo software when it comes to dealing with the transcription of both audio and video data.

I like NVivo's data visualisation functions too. They help tremendously in making your analysis more appealing.

ATLAS.ti, MAXQDA, and NVivo all do pretty much the same thing, along with Dedoose which is online and thus browser based.

I have experience in using Atlas ti.

Whichever software we use qualitative data analysis still need manual thematic analysis.No software can replace the role of a researcher in qualitative data analysis. If can help us identify codes by using auto, manual or invivo coding techniques. The system won't generate categories or themes. Still, we need to do the remaining steps of the qualitative data analysis. Once we generate categories and themes, the software can help us generate a network. Good luck with your studies.

If your dataset is small and you want to do a purely qualitative analysis (rather than a mixed methods research), I would suggest QDA Miner Lite (free). You should also consider the full version of QDA Miner as an alternative to Atlas.ti or NVivo.

the qualitative method is crucial. It is often difficult to (properly) apply a qualitative method via software that is detached from the method.

We have had very good experience with WinRelan, both in the analysis of interviews and other qualitative data. The program is based on its own method (GABEK). Since method and software go hand in hand, this allows a methodically very clean work and among other things a good intersubjectivity.
