I have synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles for making a thin fil to be deposited on a DSSC and the predominant phase was anatase. However, the XRD showed the presence of TiO2 with anorthic crystal structure. Why did they form and how? and are they good for this purpose?

I don´t know it exactly but it can be because the temperature was not sufficient to obtain anatase phase. Did you obtain anatase-phase in your XRD?
Laura Montes Indeed that is what I deducted myself. The obtained TiO2 is part of a nanocomposite that was doped with several other things and it contained cobalt so i did not calcinate it in order to prevent the cobalt oxide formed from oxidizing further. I used sol-gel to synthesize it at 60 C. The XRD showed that the TiO2 obtained is mostly anatase phase (the predominant phase), but it also showed some degree of contamination by the anorthic phase

The triclinic (or anorthic) crystal system is one of the 7 crystal systems. A crystal system is described by three basis vectors. In the triclinic system, the crystal is described by vectors of unequal length, as in the orthorhombic system.
