Animal cruelty can take many different forms. It includes overt and intentional acts of violence towards animals, but it also includes animal neglect or the failure to provide for the welfare of an animal under one’s control. In addition to this, it is important to remember animal cruelty is not restricted to cases involving physical harm. Causing animals psychological harm in the form of distress, torment or terror may also constitute animal cruelty.
As a result of there being so many possible forms of animal cruelty, state and territory animal welfare legislation does not attempt to define it in an exclusive way; rather, animal cruelty is described generally as any act or ommission that causes unnecessary or unreasonable harm to an animal. Most animal welfare Acts will provide particular examples of cruelty. These may include:
torturing or beating an animal;
confining or transporting an animal in a way that is inappropriate for its welfare;
killing an animal in an inhumane manner;
failing to provide appropriate or adequate food or water for an animal;
failing to provide appropriate treatment for disease or injury; and
Depending on the country that you are in there are various Government and Official regulations concerning how you treat animals, especially all mammals and birds, and including reptiles, are probably available where ever you are working which will outline these.
In addition to the examples cited by Sachin Kumar above, many statuates include wording about mutilation and overworking. There is no universally accepted definition of cruelty that applies to every species in every situation. What constitutes cruelty varies between cultures.
I would mention the human factor in animal cruelty from a different point of view. Sometimes what people think is cruel to an animal (see animal rights groups) is not necessarily painful or discomforting for the animal. For example the animals do not show behavioural or physiological signs of pain or discomfort in situations when people think the animal should show signs of that.
Animal cruelty can come in the form of physical abuse, neglect, or psychological intimidation. It can also come in the form of now allowing a domestic animal to live among people in a social setting, such as a dog. People who leave dogs outside chained up 24/7 are abusing the animal. It has been determined that people who abuse animals are mentally ill. They are also most likely victims of abuse themselves and the only way they can retaliate is by hurting an animal.
Animal cruelty is one which persons make them to work beyond limits. For that person does not put proper food also. The persons may beat them, train them for doing certain things. All this should be avoided and animals to be taken care, given good food, shelter and good health care.
Treating animals badly which includes abuse via physical violence, punishment, depriving them of food and sanitation and ignoring them and their needs.
Animal cruelty is a broad topic. It definitely defines the mistreatment of an animal. It is not providing adequate food, water, shelter and being abusive to the animal. In addition, animals need medical care, to be walked, bathe and affection. Every state has its own animal protection laws.
