Should I have to take more courses to have good research or
Should I have to read more articles?
I have studied a course from Indian University and I scored high marks but when I try courses in Coursera I feel like I am stupid. I could not able to solve even first two week assignments. Most of times I register for courses and then drop after two weeks because I could not keep up. I want to do Phd in Computer science in western countries with scholarship.
I have enrolled Data mining specialisation course and Massive Data mining course in coursera.
Everybody says I should have good publication. where should I start?

If you want to pursue PhD, reading research papers is your first priority. You cannot do research right now if you do not know what problems people are interested in and what they have done so far to solve those problems. If you are not confident about your background, I suggest you to pursue PhD in USA, since most programs there require coursework while most programs in Europe do not.
Read some state of the art articles in your area of interest. Reading articles should be your top priority. If you find out that you lack some foundamental notions to understand these articles or conduct your research work, only then I suggest you to find courses that could help you to tackle this issue.
Short answer : follow courses only if you actually need them.
Also what Mr Hamza Kheddar said about joining an active lab is very important. Research is above all a team work.
As others are saying, you need to know what has been done already in that field (broadly), then when you spot something you in particular find interesting, then look more deeply to see what's been done there. Another point worth noting is seeing how people in an area write their papers can help a ton with how you could write your own. Some fields use specific language, and these language can change between fields. For example, some fields that work with graphs could call graphs different things. For instance, the graph theorist of course could call it simply a graph, but a control theorist may refer to it as a control network. The jargon changes at times between areas.
It really doesn't hurt to take more courses, and learn more from others. The more knowledge you have on the topic, the more likely you can find something that interests you to study in that area. Not to mention it can broaden your understanding. Sometimes it is a matter of bringing an idea from one field to another field that hasn't tried something yet. Research can be an individual venture, or a team venture. I know I do most of my research by myself, but collaboration is a key aspect in research, and this can vary between fields.
Frankly speaking I divide the word research into re and search which means to find something again. In this re search process one must have to go through the process of re inventing the wheel from scratch for the sake of learning (means bookish knowledge). After you came to know a comprehensive information about this wheel then there comes a shift. This shift comprises find out what has been done and what needs to be done (re search articles) in your area of interest. Do some comparative analysis of the existing research based on the solved problems and live problems. Based on this comparative analysis choose a key area or problem in the field of data mining in which you have knowledge and interest. Then move towards innovation or an extension in the existing wheel. That's all. Best of luck.
