What is good scale for psychological well-being, "except ryff scale"? I use self determination theory for my framework and need some scales which can match with this theory.
I recommend you either use The Satisfaction with Life Scale by Ed Diener or one item on global life satisfaction respectively happiness.
Examples:
- “All things considered, how satisfied are you with your life as a whole these days?” (World Values Survey)
- “Taken all together, how would you say things are these days? Would you say that you are very happy, pretty happy, or not too happy?” (The General Social Survey (GSS))
Research on the topic shows that such questions are easily answered by the respondents.
Psychological well being is the total development of Mind ,Body ,covering the action forces of conscious & subconscious mind for which every human being acts as a deciding course of their life .
Well being of any person rests in the virtuous development of the body ,mind which may help him to establish moral code of life consisting of honesty, sincerity ,in their behavior .
To achieve the well being of any human being ,he has to nourish & nurture his way of life through his conscious & sub conscious mind controlling the negative elements which almost every human beings posses .Scale of psychological well being rests with the individual person in which way he desires to pass his valuable life till his life journey .It is the watchful process which every human beings should guard & take care for his life so that he may not sleep away from his chosen life
You might want to look at the Multidimensional Self Esteem Scale (MSEI) by O’Brien & Epstein, 1988. In addition to global self-esteem it also measures eight components of self-esteem which include competence, loveability, likability, personal power, moral self-approval, body appearance, body functioning and self-control. There are also separate scales for identity integration and defensive self-enhancement. As you can see many of the components overlap with factors studied in self-determination theory.
Consider Ed Diener's psychological well-being scale published with his son in their book on the assessment of well-being (circa 2011). Also have a look at the website of Deci & Ryan at the University of Rochester.
I would avoid self-esteem scales (see Baumeister et al)
I am sure the psychological well-being scale would be useful, but I would like to add a few points just to make the concept of self-esteem clearer.
The review conducted by Baumeister, Campbell, Krueger, and Vohs (2003) indeed led them to the conclusion that self-esteem of children and adults does not have any causal relationship with academic achievement, or with success in relationships or in preventing delinquency in youth.
However, there are two points to be considered. First, they agreed that high self-esteem is associated with taking greater initiative and experiencing positive emotions, such as happiness; and second their review mostly included studies of global self-esteem not its specific components. Since experiencing positive emotions is an integral aspect of subjective well-being, global self-esteem can be considered a related factor. Specific aspects of self-esteem are more reflective of actual behaviour in those domains and having a high self-esteem in any of these would be applicable to feelings of self-worth in that area only. If any one is interested in global vs. specific self-esteem, please see Rosenberg, Schooler, Schoenbach & Rosenberg (1995).
I am not quite sure you may adapt some scales of Robert Lent. He combined the concepts of well being- PWB and SWB together to explain how the personality traits or affective dispostions, cognitive, motivational and contextual/environmental factors affect to domain-specific satisfaction and overall life satisfaction. Some factors in the Lent's model are consistent with some constructs of PWB.
I have recently developed a scale on Harmony in life, which complements the Satisfaction with life Scale. Perhaps you would find it interesting. For example, I would expect Satisfaction with life to relate more with Autonomy; meanwhile Harmony in life more with Relatedness.
