during boiling process, the extract already become too saturated and difficult to be filtrated. hence, i skip the filtrating and concentrating steps and proceed with the freeze drying step. is there any adverse effect to my extracts? is there any ways that i can used to troubleshoot this? thanks.
If you do not separate the dissolved pulp from the residue you might as well ignore the extraction. You can either add much more of your extractant and see if you can then filter or alternatively try to separate the residue from the extract by centrifugation.
What solvent are you using? you should increase solvent - you can go on adding it during boiling if possible with precautions
Why do you want to boil your extract? If there are sugars present you may be making a sticky dilute jam. If there is starch present it may lead to the formation of a dilute porridge. Many compounds are extracted very well at lower temperatures. the solvent used depends on what you want to extracts. Remember like dissolves like. Water would extract polar compounds, methanol and ethanol polar and some intermediate polarity compounds, acetone because it mixes with water and hexane will extract a wide range of polarity compounds and dichloromethane andhexane will extract mainly non-polar compounds
thank you. is there a proper protocol on how to extract the fruit pulp by aqueous and methanol extract? yes, as shown in the above replied, due to present of starch,, the extract did become like a dilute porridge. what if i add the amount of solvent and reduce the time to boil it, maybe around 30 minutes and 45 minutes? do you think it is better?
