In many proteins such as lysozyme and alpha-synuclein, only a limited part of protein participate in cross-beta sheet and fibril formation. In alpha synuclein from 140 residues only about 60 residues are present in fibrils.

We know that profibrils have lateral interaction and lateral non fibrillar regions can interfere with this lateral interaction. We saw that in alpha-synuclein, in all stages of fibrillation labeled-N-terminal part of protein remained. How?
