I have bought 100 mg of "1,1′-Diethyl-2,2′-cyanine iodide" or "Pseudocyanine iodide" from Sigma. The material that I bought is a white powder (look like white particles), but I have read on the Simga website that the physical properties of 1,1′-Diethyl-2,2′-cyanine iodide, Product 323764 is:
"This dye is a solid dark red crystals."
And by dissolving this material in methanol, I obtain a totally colorless and transparent solution, but on the Sigma website it is mentioned that:
"This product is soluble in 1% DMF:Methanol (1:1), yielding a clear, dark solution."
What happened to my material?
I have bought it from Iranian importer company "Vista Gene Enzyme".
Is it possible that it has been under radiation of light or expired?

Cyanines are coloured. Take a photo of the compound and contact Sigma-Aldrich. They should (and will) replace it.
You please check the proper storage condition and compare with yours. Also, check the manufacturing date. Then, you should contact to the people who supply it from Sigma.
