I am using Sirenia Acquisition 1.0.3 software (.pvfs files) to record EEG traces from mice. I was curious what filters, sample rates, and gain I should use? I'm looking to record basic brain activity.
I can tell you what I do in San Raffaele lab.
We record EEG using epidural screw electrodes implanted in the skull.
Our sampling frequency is 256 Hz; filters are set at 0.16-100 Hz for data storing, and 0.5-30 Hz for trace visualization.
In the past, for local field potentials I have low-pass filtered (Chebyshev, 50 Hz notch, 0.1dB ripple) between 0 and 500 Hz. This can then be digitized at something like 48 kHz and further amplified... It is true that you need a high sampling rate if you are looking for high frequency signals (you need to sample about twice as frequently as the highest frequency you want to analyse).
