I have nanolaminates made from Al2O3 and HfO2 nanolayers, which were stored in normal lab stmosphere for almost three years now. I wonder if this had any influence on the nanaolayers but I am not a chemistry expert...does anyone know more about this or even knows studies on similar issues?
If your concern is related to the electrical characteristics (Capacitance or/and current vs. voltage) of the nanolayers, then you need not to worry much, as these characteristics do not undergo a noticeable degradation.
I also have kept ~40 nm of ALD Al2O3 and HfO2 under an ambient environment (~25 dC temperature & 50 % humidity) in a sample box (not in vacuum) for more than 18 months and still getting similar characteristics.
I suggest you to read an article: DOI:10.1016/j.surfcoat.2015.10.008. There are several nanolaminates under discussion. One of the references shows how old the samples actually are.
