I am working on Bi2Fe4O9 sample which shows some planes getting enhanced after sintering. The specific planes are (001),(002),(140). Can anyone suggest what it is due to?
If the FWHM is not increasing after sintering only intensity is increasing it may induced preferred orientation.
Sintering/annealing leads to both
a) increase of crystallite size and thus decrease of FWHM combined with increase of peak height and
b) partially preferred orientation.
Both aspects are already mentioned by Shradhanjali Sahoo.
In order to exclude preferred orientation please mill your sample and used it in powder form.
Sample lattices are growing at those planes preferably, If you heat any sample particle size and crystalinity will increase resulting decrease in FWHM. Also, see a,b respoces of Gerhard.
While sintering, we will give lot of time and energy to the system to grow in all the direction (X,Y,Z) so the specific planes such as (001),(002),(140) may grew more. or due to preferred orientation.
