ISI mean or stand for what?
As to add an imact factor or to calculate the imact factor of the Journal different agencies are doing it.

ISI stands for Institute of Scientific Information which currently belongs to Clarivate Analytics but people still used to call it ISI!
The ISI (Institute of Scientific Information) also publishes the annual Journal Citation Reports which list an impact factor for each of the journals that it tracks.
Thank you for your question. There is a very important issue which researchers should attention when talking about ISI Indexed journals.
Actually, ISI has 6 sub databases. If a journal is indexed by each of these 6 databases, we can say that journal is an ISI indexed journal. So, if a researcher publishes an article in that journal, his/her paper is an ISI paper.
The databases are:
1. Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED),
2. Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI),
3. Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI),
4. Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI),
5. Conference Proceedings Citation Index Science (CPCI-S),
6. Conference Proceedings Citation Index- Social Science & Humanities (CPCI-SSH)
But, the most important thing that I want to talk about that is the JCR (Journal Citation Report). Only the first three databases (SCI-Expanded, SSCI, And A&HCI) are in JCR. JCR computes Impact Factor annually that it is the indicator which can be a proxy for quality of that journal.
In conclusion, we should attention to the database of ISI that the journal is indexed. The first three databases are high quality but we have many journals which are indexed by ESCI and so they don’t have an Impact factor but they are ISI journals.

ISI which stands for Institute of Scientific Information was the owner of the Web of Science database, then it was sold to Thomson Reuters, and after several years the Clarivate Analytics became the owner of this database which keeps developing and growing and presenting new indicators that expands its performance. This database gives access to other databases in biology, or international bibliographies , the Korean and the Russian. It also has sub databases such as Journal Citation Report that ranks journals, and essential science indicators that ranks countries and disciplines measured by citations and publications.
In academic and research circles, ISI stands for Institute for Scientific Information. ISI was established in 1960 by Eugene Garfield, who published the first citation index for articles in academic journals. Thomson Reuters acquired ISI, and it was so until 2016, when they sold the Intellectual Property & Science Business to Clarivate Analytics. In 2018, Clarivate Analytics reestablished ISI as part of Scientific and Academic Research Group.
