I endorse all contribution thus far. You can do research to address challenges in teaching as well as keep abreast of your field which can help you to update your practice. Here are two examples in which I addressed challenges of graduate students lags in submitting their final theses and used debates to develop students' critical thinking and collaborative skills (21st Century) that are much needed in today's workplace:
Conference Paper Academic Supporting Strategies for Students' Graduate Research
Conference Paper Debating: A Dynamic Teaching Strategy for Motivating Student...
Through research, you can gain deeper understanding and experience in your areas of specialty and this will translate into better approaches to teaching.
Based on my experiences the research can just bring a deeper understanding of the field. Teaching has own techniques. We have faced with some experts in Research and writing very good articles but they are very weak in teaching based on the questionnaires that filled by students!
While teaching allude to some applications which may come from the research you are doing. This will whet the student appetite so that they realize that what they learn in class is not just for academic purposes but has possibly deeper, real-world applications.
Both teaching and research assist us to develop insight into our field, refine our communication skills, and draw on our ability to select and organize content in a meaningful way
I remember two papers of James O. Fiet in the Journal of Business Venturing about this problematic of theory and teaching of entrepreneurship:
Fiet, J. O. (2001). The theoretical side of teaching entrepreneurship. Journal of business venturing, 16(1), 1-24.
Fiet, J. O. (2001). The pedagogical side of entrepreneurship theory. Journal of business venturing, 16(2), 101-117.
that's mean that it is so important to build bridges between the two. it's important to teach a good theory. However, it's challenging to choose the right content for teaching (practical vs. theoretical).
Scientific research should provide new data necessary to update the material used in the teaching process. Knowledge taught to students and students in the teaching process should be up to date and should provide answers to key questions arising from specific sciences and taught disciplines. The aim of the knowledge update should be research. In addition, in the process of academic education, students should be taught the methodology of conducting scientific research, including also learn about modern methodologies and research tools. As part of the teaching of research methods, students should learn about the possibilities of using new information technologies, new media internet, Industry 4.0 technology for scientific research. Students should be motivated in the education process to create new, innovative topics and techniques for conducting research.
