"Similarly, the temporal lords are supposed to govern lands and people outwardly. This they leave undone. They can do no more than strip and fleece, heap tax upon tax and tribute upon tribute, letting loose here a bear and there a wolf. Besides this, there is no justice, integrity, or truth to be found among them. They behave worse than any thief or scoundrel, and their temporal rule has sunk quite as low as that of the spiritual tyrants. For this reason God so perverts their minds also, that they rush on into the absurdity of trying to exercise a spiritual rule over souls, just as their counterparts try to establish a temporal rule. They blithely heap alien sins upon themselves and incur the hatred of God and man, until they come to ruin together with bishops, popes, and monks, one scoundrel with the other. Then they lay all the blame on the gospel, and instead of confessing their sin they blaspheme God and say that our preaching has brought about that which their perverse wickedness has deserved—and still unceasingly deserves—just as the Romans did when they were destroyed" (Martin Luther, Temporal Authority. To what Extent It Should be Obeyal" ,1523) https://archive.org/details/lutherselectedpo0000luth/page/n6?q=Martin+Luther%2C+political+writings
There was a time when politician were good people who wanted to help improve their society, but I do not think that is the case now. There are a few, or many the few that are horrible cancel out the good ones and we do not see them work.
When i was growing up, we had a federal representative who was fabulous. He really tried to help his constituents. I am not sure that there are men like him anymore.
The majority of politicians have no principles and no moral obligation. But there are few of them who work honestly and faithfully for his country and his people, while the majority works for their interests.
Unfortunately, a generation of new politicians is emerging, all cut by the same pattern "a lot of facade, but behind this there is nothing at all". A well-known retired politician said about the current leader of his party: "with this man you can talk about the country at most 20 minutes." The new politicians mostly have a college education, but the only thing they learned well was nonverbal communication techniques. His political project is his personal project. They do not have political lines of action, but a sequence of gestures towards the gallery, with the sole objective of obtaining good electoral results ... But I hope that another new generation of politicians will emerge that are clear about what public service is and that if they are there , it is because citizens have voted them to solve their problems and move society forward.
In politics, generally leaders and people who are in politics try to deceive their constituents. Because except some the persons, all politicians want to get money and be famous person.
Politicians and politics has become self serving. Political interests have become self serving and for personal gain and the financial remunerations one procures. Citizens can no longer go and get things or improvements in situations and the divide has become deeper between rich and poor. Many political decisions and tax increases and levys make the poor poorer giving money in one hand they say look what you are getting and then by stealth tax they get that and more BACK. if democracy is seen to work all wages should reflect standard of living in general our politicians are grossly overpaid and claim exorbitant sundry expenses with a wage that 2 families or more could live on. I think politics is rife with gangsters and individuals more interested in themselves than serving those who elected them. I don't thin much of our current raft of politicians and neither would I have faith in any of our opposition parties either
