With a new president (Donald J. Trump) soon, what do you think the future of higher education will be in the United States? What changes do you expect from the new administration? Why?
One year of Donald Trump: how are US universities faring?
If there is a new kind of culture war being waged over America’s universities and colleges then the University of California, Berkeley has been the definitive battleground. The university’s decision last February to cancel right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos’ scheduled talk on security grounds, in the face of a protest by “black bloc” protesters, was seized on by Donald Trump as an example of campus bias against right-wing views. The US president, who had been inaugurated less than two weeks previously, threatened in a tweet to end all federal funding for Berkeley ...
In my opinion, America will always be in the forefront of education and scientific discovery because they have universities that the world can not match- Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Yale, etc. The US Constitution is the greatest protection against any elected official who abuses his/her power.
My short answer is NO. My opinion based on video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TlqQjmTLH4 ("Academician Arnold about American Education").
I would like to quote one piece from the discussion https://www.researchgate.net/post/What_is_US_tweet_economy_in_the_age_of_Trump
"In the world there is such a tendency as the destruction of the old system of education. A few years ago, a representative of a very large American firm "Boeing", which is well known to all, explained to me that the American System of Education is such that they can not hire students from US universities to make new planes or even repair old planes. "Boeing" exists only on the fact that they hire emigrants, mainly from three countries: from Russia, China and India. Therefore, when we read in your newspapers that you are going to bring your education system to American standards, we understand that according to our estimates in Russia in 30 years there will be the same bad education system, and then we are no longer able to hire anyone at all. Then the entire technological system will collapse, because it is based on emigrants, it is based on the fact that the minds of the whole Europe work in the United States".
