I have read a lot of recent articles about student debt. I think many people are wondering if an MBA degree is worth the amount of time and money required to obtain it? What is your experience?
I have no personal experience but from my colleagues have I heard that MBA degree from top colleges is worth the amount of time and money required to obtain it. However, not so in case of many other colleges in India. Students who left their job to acquire MBA degree often got more or less the same salary elsewhere after acquiring the degree.
I agree with Subir. It may well be worth obtaining an MBA if you get one from a highly-rated business school. On the other hand, if you pursue MBA studies in an institution with third-rate staff and little in the way of reputation, it might be a waste of money.
Bear in mind, too, the issue of credential inflation. These days so many people have MBAs that even good ones carry less weight in the employment market than they did 20 or 30 years ago. Hence, the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is offered with increasing frequency by universities.
According to me MBA degree is worth if we consider the knowledge one receive after completing this. If one complete the degree with updated knowledge and apply this practically in support with other related knowledge, he/she can become noteworthy.
MBA Degree can't be learnt. It is all about application of concepts. Just because students hold MBA degree they can't be placed as Managers. This degree can be gained even when we work. The work experience coupled with studies can give better prospects than exclusive work or study.
