I do not think it is an alternative to Newtonian Calculus, rather based on the Newtonian Calculus it can be generalized and non-Newtonian concepts can be introduced. That is what Grossman and Katz quotation says there is uniform relationship. It is known that Non-Nwtonian calculus models real life problems more accurately.
