Often it is seen that a profession is believe to be once passion. But at the same time parents and guardians got a vital influance in choice and selection of a profession and specially professional studies. Guardians believe that their child is not mature enough to make a wise decision about profession They like to see their children as Doctors, Engineers , highy paid managers, may be armed forces and professions likend with high status. Modest familes often donot like their wards to be a players or musicians or extreme riders e.t.c. On the other hand passion drages a persons towards other side, a side where he might be not highly paid or status but highy satisfied. So where to go....parent side? Fun side?...or passion side?...
I think it depends on mintalitet, cultural traditions and methods of education and other features of a particular family. For example, I chose the profession itself. My daughter is in the choice of future profession sovetyval me.

Yes dear @Vyacheslav, mentality and traditions are very influential factors. Sometimes parents play a decisive role! It depends also on level of parental education and parental ambition! I do suggest following reading! It is a good article, no matter the case study is Pensylvania!

Teachers could be defined as 'culture-based parents' and students as 'culture-based children'. In this framework, culture-based parents (teachers) help to guide culture-based children (students) to make professional choices.

Profession choice is personal
Choice of Profession is rarely a personal decision because it is at an age when the maturity may not be there. Choice depends on the circumstances, marks, financial status, choice and profession of parents, surrounding environment etc. Very few people are strong and determined and goal directed enough to choose their own profession.

There can be different motives for the choice of one's occupation. So, it is difficult to give a general answer to your question, but it would be of some value to write about my mean experience. I lost my father in my childhood and my decision of profession was finally quite personal with effects from passion, environment and ability. My father was a mathematics teacher at middle schools (which were the equivalent of junior and senior high schools in the present Japanese education system), and I was thinking to become the same when I was in early teens. When I was 14 years old, I learned that Hideki Yukawa had been awarded Nobel Prize in Physics for his meson theory and had a passion to became a theoretical physicist myself. Around that time, my uncle came to see my mother and me. When he was going to leave our home, he said to us, "Tatsuo should become a scholar," possibly on the basis of his observation of my character. His word pushed my passion, and I majored in physics at Kyoto University. In those years, my mother, who was working as a teacher at a school for the blind, was nearing the age of retirement. This fact demanded me to get a job as early as possible, and I also had a thought that I might better use not only my brain but also my hand skills. These made me choose experimental physics rather than theoretical physics in the fourth year at the university. Thus, I became an experimental physicist.
