What classical examples in the literature of contamination by agrochemical, herbicide, fungicide, insecticide and pesticide residues in groundwater in agriculture?
Organochlorine or organofluorine pesticides e.g. DDT which is prohibited when used on farmlands due to their non-degradable nature contaminate groundwater which when drunk had resulted to yellowing of teeth (fluorosis) in some poverty stricken communities in Africa.
Pesticides residues of those insecticides ,fungicides and herbicides Which are highly dissolved in water particularly carbamate compounds and their metabolites such as aldicarb, methomyl ,aldixicarb and other oxime compounds , are easily can be leached deeply to ground water particularly which are near in to the surface .
Pesticides residues of those insecticides and fungicides Which are with low soluble in water particularly chlorinated hydrocarbon compounds DDT(p,pDDT,DDE, DDD) , cyclodines ,( endrin ,dieldren ,aldrin ), Hexachlorobenzene (lindene isomers ) and their metabolites ,they do not move down deeply in the ground just near the surface ,but they contaminate cultivated and eaten roots. In case of reaching running water they drop down catching the sediments ,sands and small stones Salam and best wishes .
I have a scientitic work which is yet to be published on DDT found in vegetables above permissible limits. A survey carried out on the farmland where the vegetables were grown indicated the last time DDT was applied on the farmland was over 15 years ago. If interested I can send that aspect of the entire for you to go through showing results obtained and discussion
As a research project in the two main Brazilian aquifers and in the interior of the Amazon, all knowledge about the potential contaminants of groundwater, as well as case studies, especially scientific articles, are warmly welcomed to enrich our bibliographic base in this very important research area.
I study groundwater at a more comprehensive level. I do not study a specific contaminant. We do not have equipment for this here. We usually use data collected by other researchers. But we are aware of the allowable levels of pesticide in drinking water, especially groundwater. Legislation that sets parameters for pesticides as well as other contaminants in waters are: Ministry of Health (MS) and National Environment Council (CONAMA)
Do you study any in particular? Do you have any place to do in relation to this problem?
