I've been asked to design a circuit to power up and pick up the signal from a Knowles NR23158 microphone that is going to be used to record mosquitoes in a lab.

If I plan to connect this microphone to a professional computer sound card that has its own pre-amps (like an M-Audio USB Audio Interface or alike), do I still need to design an amplifier circuit for the microphone or will the pre-amps from the sound card do?

Is a conversion from the unbalanced signal that the microphone outputs to a balanced signal needed? (The sound card has both balanced XLR and unbalanced TS inputs and the sound card would be located next to the microphone, so I don't think interference would be a big problem).

Thank you very much.
