I have synthesized high entropy oxide with (Ni Zn Cu Mn)1-x Cox composition. At x=0.05 the microstructure became rod shape and the SEM picture of the other part of that sample is different. And only in this composition, this rod microstructure was observed.
What may cause this?
If anyone could help me with these issues, I would appreciate it greatly.
Dear all, it is the environment or medium constituants of the synthesis. Any impurity may start the nucleation and may also orient crystal growth. My Regards
Faeze Hosseini , as far as i think there can be many reasons:
(a) inhomogeneous mixing. [Remedy: you may try to mix the constituting elements more rigorously].
(b) insufficient temperature. In order to acquire the desired alloy, you need specific temperatures and the specific durations (hours). Maybe phase diagrams or the other research papers can help you to decide the temperature and heating time.
Finally, if you are doing SEM and you note any such thing, it is always better to do EDS. The EDS spectrum will simply tell you what element is forming "rod" etc ? And later you can optimize the synthesis method.

Phase transformation may be the cause of these changes in microstructure. Secondly, it may be due to thermal instability (lack of thermal equilibrium) within the melt.
