Hello, we have a curious results with the thin film deposition adhesion tests. We are using PVD (evaporation) on KBr like salts.

When we deposit NiCr only layer and do simple tape test, the coating stays on the 90% of the area.

But when we add even tiny layer of Gold on top of NiCr layer, whole coating lifts off during the tape test.

In both cases samples are pre cleaned using the same methods. In both cases glass witness slides are not showing any lift off during the tape test and even when we try forcefully remove thin film layers, we just scratch off metals.

So what could be the reason of failure of the tape test with light Gold layer on top of NiCr?
