Respected Scholars! What are the sayings/views about intersex and trans people (Jesus) an old/new Testament/Version? I am entire need of it for my research.
Hello Mouna, sometime the Bible doesn't say things explicitly, but gives us general principles to apply. The Bible says the body is the temple of the holy spirit, and tells us to be pure in all things. It says 'marriage is honorable ....", that God created male and female, and desires believers to have godly children in the faith. It says "Be content with what you have", and this is a general principle, and I am to be content to be a woman, as I'm created to be. But I also do not judge, or impose, and my views are right for me.
The only one I know is Deuteronomy 22:5, and also 1 Corinthians 6:9, the literal greek translation means effeminate male, maybe trans people enter in that group.
Bible (Nor Old or New Testament) nowhere explicitly mentions transexual or intersexual people. The most famous Biblical verses about gender were in the Old Testament (In the First Book: Genesis): "male and female He created them. God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. [...] (Genesis 1:27-28).
In the New Testament there are implicit references to transsexualism and transvestitism through the condemnation of "homosexuality", even if this term obviously did not exist yet.
For example in Romans 1: 24-32, we can read:
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Moreover in Corinthians 6: 9-10 we can read:
9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
However we have the closest references to transvestitism in Deuteronomy 22:5 that say:
5 A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this.
To my knowledge, there are no other references about transsexualism in particular...
Certainly Jesus never condemned or spoke about transexual people...
I would feel to understand fully what the bible translations says more so about homosexuality that transexuality or intersex I know it mentions that men should not lie with men. As the bible was written in Greek and Hebrew then it is dependant on how words are translated into English I will look up mention of what you are asking and return with a more concrete answer.
Michela, Macro and my dear scholars; all of you are making value added to my research, now pray for me that first time this type of study is going to b conducted in Pakistan in my Prestigious School of business. Please pray for me, for its accomplishment and my life (as all of you know well) could be in danger. Well thanks all of you guys.
Know that we are all Gods children and are loved equally. One thing I have learned in academia, intelligence doesn't preclude bigotry; even at the expense of using a book of love and compassion for hatred murder homophobia and transphobia! One of my favorite quotes is this:
Matthew 22:36-40New King James Version (NKJV)
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
It does not say unless your gay unless you're transgender unless your intersexed. There are no qualifications. Furthermore: Christians tend to love to focus on Leviticus so I would like to present this passage in Leviticus that I doubt MOST people do NOT follow but they throw the other passage that mentions homosexuality. Here it is. Lev 19:11-18
11 ‘You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another. 12 And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.
13 ‘You shall not cheat your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of him who is hired shall not remain with you all night until morning. 14 You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but shall fear your God: I am the Lord.
15 ‘You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor. 16 You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord.
17 ‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. 18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
I have one other quote from the book directly related to transgender intersexed or whatever term you wish to label them and it is quoted in 1 Samuel 16:7, " But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (my uncle was a Baptist/ then pentecostal pastor. He left the Baptist faith because he felt they were too permissive, judgemental, and hypocritical) . I sort of HAD to study the bible extensively.
However, ALL are harassed murdered and discriminated against. I am VERY well aware of the differences but I grouped them together under the umbrella term of transgender because they ALL face violence, murder, and discrimination; much of it based on faulty religious dogma beliefs!
Mouna the Lord will protect you for speaking the enlightened and learned truth. People only fear the truth when they know they are in error or are being deceived it is easier to remain blind than to open ones eyes and mind to words written by others as the saying goes the truth hurts. Wishing you much blessings and success in your endeavour.
Michela Balocchi ! yes dear "transgender and intersex" are both different personalities with different persona traits. That's why I have mentioned them separately.
Love and regards to all my supportive scholars, Bundle of thanks.
Violence against marginalized groups is violence. Murder is murder and harassment is harassment. They are grouped AS marginalized populations although different situations. They are all stigmatized for not being “normal” in society’s eyes. The suicide rate for trans and intersex people is 28 times the General population which includes women. I don’t include women in the category as marginalized but gays (we don’t use homosexual any longer, it’s outdated) trans and interested are. Very different situations but all marginalized and not considered “normal”, even by women who experience Violence. Women although they deal with violence are not violated to the intensity and extent that the other groups have Nor is their suicide rates anywhere near as extensive as the other groups so I do not group heterosexual women into a marginalized population as gays lesbians trans gender fluid non binary and intersexed
Holy Scripture and the teachings of the Church unequivocally condemn homosexual sexual relations, seeing in them a vicious distortion of the God-created nature of man.
"If anyone lies with a man as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination" (Lev. 20:13). The Bible tells about the severe punishment to which God subjected the inhabitants of Sodom (Gen. 19:1-29), according to the interpretation of the holy fathers, precisely for the sin of sodomy. The Apostle Paul, characterizing the moral state of the pagan world, names homosexual relations among the most "shameful passions" and "lewdness" that defile the human body: friend, men on men doing shame, and receiving in themselves the due wages of their error" (Rom. 1:26-27). "Do not be deceived: neither the Malachis, nor the homosexuals...they will inherit the Kingdom of God," the apostle wrote to the inhabitants of corrupted Corinth (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). The patristic tradition just as clearly and definitely condemns any manifestation of homosexuality. The "Teaching of the Twelve Apostles", the works of Saints Basil the Great, John Chrysostom, Gregory of Nyssa, Blessed Augustine, the canons of Saint John the Faster express the unchanging teaching of the Church: homosexual relationships are sinful and subject to condemnation. The people involved in them do not have the right to be members of the church clergy (Basilius the Great, pr. 7, Gregory the Great, pr. 4, John the Lent, pr. 30). Turning to those who have stained themselves with the sin of sodomy, the Monk Maximus the Greek cried out: “Know yourselves, cursed ones, what a foul pleasure you have indulged in!... Try to get behind this most vile and foul pleasure of yours as soon as possible, hate it, and whoever claims that it is innocent, anathematize eternally, as an opponent of the Gospel of Christ the Savior and corrupting its teaching. Cleanse yourself with sincere repentance, warm tears and almsgiving and pure prayer... Hate this wickedness with all your soul, so that you will not be sons of damnation and eternal destruction.
Discussions about the position of the so-called sexual minorities in modern society tend to recognize homosexuality not as a sexual perversion, but only one of the "sexual orientations" that have an equal right to public manifestation and respect. It is also argued that homosexual attraction is due to individual natural predisposition. The Orthodox Church proceeds from the unchanging conviction that the God-established marriage union of a man and a woman cannot be compared with perverted manifestations of sexuality. She considers homosexuality to be a sinful damage to human nature, which is overcome in a spiritual effort leading to healing and personal growth of a person. Homosexual aspirations, like other passions that torment a fallen person, are healed by the Sacraments, prayer, fasting, repentance, reading the Holy Scriptures and patristic writings, as well as Christian fellowship with believers who are ready to provide spiritual support.
Treating people with homosexual inclinations with pastoral responsibility, the Church at the same time resolutely opposes attempts to present the sinful tendency as a "norm", and even more so as an object of pride and an example to follow. That is why the Church condemns any propaganda of homosexuality. Without denying anyone the fundamental rights to life, respect for personal dignity and participation in public affairs, the Church, however, believes that persons promoting a homosexual lifestyle should not be allowed to teach, educate and commanding position in the army and correctional institutions.
Sometimes perversions of human sexuality manifest themselves in the form of a painful feeling of belonging to the opposite sex, resulting in an attempt to change sex (transsexualism). The desire to refuse belonging to the gender that the Creator bestowed on man can only have detrimental consequences for the further development of the individual. “Sex reassignment” through hormonal influence and surgical operation in many cases does not lead to the resolution of psychological problems, but to their aggravation, giving rise to a deep internal crisis. The Church cannot approve of this kind of "rebellion against the Creator" and recognize artificially changed gender as valid. If a "sex change" occurred to a person before Baptism, he can be admitted to this Sacrament, like any sinner, but the Church baptizes him as belonging to the gender in which he was born. The ordination of such a person to the priesthood and his entry into a church marriage is unacceptable.
It is necessary to distinguish from transsexualism the incorrect identification of gender in early childhood as a result of a medical error associated with the pathology of the development of sexual characteristics. Surgical correction in this case does not have the character of sex change.
