I am at a small primarily undergraduate institution with limited resources, but we are eager to establish some important and feasible molecular/cell biology experiments on questions related to cell biology/cancer biology using C Elegans as a model system. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions of where to start and/or which types of questions are addressable using C Elegans.

The very basics: 20 degree incubator, NGM plates, OP50 cultures, some basic worm strains (https://cgc.umn.edu/), a heat source (bunsen burner or ethanol lamps), worm picks and a dissection scope. A basic molecular biology lab would be useful to make plasmids for RNAi by bacterial feeding. More advanced microscopes would be useful if one wants to examine embryonal cell cycle events. C. elegans is great for doing genetics and embryos should be pretty visible at 60x.
I work in C. elegans and iron metabolism. I am not a C elegans expert but I ended up working in C elegans and Innate immunity.
Role of Gene X in Innate immunity. ?
How they respond to Pathogens or stressful conditions like heat or cold.
Characterizing Gene X By RNA-seq and ChIP-seq and start from there or pick the one that has the RNA-seq and ChIP-seq data already available and start to decipher the pathway.
qPCR machine is a must atleast with C elegans as most of the abs for western are not available.
