I am currently in the process of drafting a new research project on the use of Spanish subject personal pronouns. Basically, I am the only one at my university who is working on Hispanic Sociolinguistics, so I don't have any collegues to discuss my ideas with. Therefore, I would want to ask the research community for their thoughts on the attached research project.

It is interesting to see such a profound study coming from a non-spanish speaking university. Makes me feel kind of proud :) I am also curious as to why you chose to focus particularly on the caribbean. They make a different use of SPPs than, for instance, spanish Spanish, stating them more explicitly and with less omissions (as in 'ya tú sabes' vs 'ya sabes'), for instance.

Dear Jeroen,
I will be interested if I see a study that links all forms of Spanish to Latin. Spanish, as you know ,Italian and French too, are very close to Latin. If you mix philology with sociolinguistics you can help us see the very nature of the change or the differance with a in the middle( Derrida). In other words-what is purely linguistic and what is purely social?

I find your research very interesting! I have not been able to access your corpus (nor read your whole publications as of yet) so apologies if my question is out of place. Which linguistic areas are you considering in the Caribbean? I mean, not only Caribbean Spanish is a broad term, but it refers to areas in which there is contact with different languages, mainly English in PR. Is Puerto Rico a member of your "Caribbean Spanish" concept? Your "About" section specifies that you refer to "Antillean" Spanish, and your publications show an interest in PR, DR and Cuba. My point is that maybe it could be a good idea defining first which kind of speakers/informants are you going to use, and the linguistic backgrounds of their communities. Again, that's likely that you have considered that already.
