The concept of the ecovillage should not include a clear and strong financial and money market. I think there should not be any unique currency. The ecovillage principle must be based on communityliness, the service economy, the principles of sharing. Items and services to be purchased from outside should be made in the currency of the country the village located in.
Currency (money) must satisfy several principles of money. They must be accepted by everyone, have a clear value, and there is somebody to guarantee the existence/ credibility of money. Make a new local currency is possible, but the way is too long. It is better and beneficial for everyone to establish the strong ecovillage.
Of course I agree with establishing a strong ecovillage based on high quality principles and solidarity. I do not think that by using a currency you go against these values. There can also be practical reasons and there are examples of ELM systems that have been very useful both for the ecovillage and the surrounding neighbors, local suppliers etc. that have interactions with the ecovillage.
It is also a good way to keep track of data concerning your small economy that can give you feedback and make it easier to organize. Again, these are just my first thoughts on this matter.
