Do folks in OB or HR have some seminal literature (journals or books) on how functional area groups such are defined, such as VP of Marketing, Director of Operations, or Manager - Public Relations etc.
It would help also if the tiers of titles, from analyst, to manager, to executives etc. was also included in these articles. I am trying to input an array of job titles for a few thousand employees, and creating a sorting algorithm to group the titles along dimensions of level (analyst, director, C-suite exec) within dimensions of functional areas (biz dev, finance, accounting, HR, legal, management, marketing/sales etc.)
The Bureau of Labor Statistics has numerous job titles that are already categorized ..

If you refer to good textbooks in the relevant functional areas of Organizational Management, I think you will be able to find relevant hierarchies. As far as HRM is concerned, according to my observation the list is:
Support Jobs
Receptionist, Personnel Clerk, Personnel Assistant, and HR Assistant
Technical and Professional Jobs
Recruitment Manager, Training Manager, Manager-Human Resource Development, Industrial Relations Manager, Remuneration Manager, Job Analyst, Employment Specialist, Rewards Specialist and Welfare Officer
Operating HR Managers
Human Resource Manager, Manager-Personnel, Manager-Human Resources, Senior Manager-Human Resources and Factory Human Resource Manager
HR Executive Jobs (Strategic HR Jobs)
Assistant General Manager (Human Resources), Deputy General Manager (Human Resources), Group Human Resource Manager and Director-Human Resources

CEO's are at the top of the hierarchy - either as part of the BoD/T or just below. Legal Counsel is usually an "advisory" position and not directly part of the chain of command. Usually reports directly to the CEO.
Is this from a strategic management perspective, or HR? Anything to cite (ideally recent management journal article) that explores this hierarchical framework?
Moderation had an interaction effect, where introducing a moderating variable changes the direction or magnitude of the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. It affects the direction and/or strength of the relation between the two variables.
