What are the recent happenings in recommender system, the area in Machine Learning?

I know that netflix, flipkart, amazon etc. uses Machine Learning technique namely recommender system to appropriately recommend new product to their customer. In recommender system there are mainly two styles. One content based, second collaborative filtering. I want to know what are the recent advancement in this area? Thanks.
