Whatever the type of research work and scientific study, one thing that is important is that they all meet on the common ground of systematic method employed by them. Good scientific paper should be fulfill certain criteria.
The data the researcher adds in the research paper should have to be verifiable and provable. The researcher should be able to demonstrate the research paper and there should not be any loopholes in the information.
A research paper should have to be free of ambiguities and it should have great clarity. Clarity is one of the main essences of research and without clarity the research paper is useless.
As a researcher you do not need to add a lot to the research paper to make it unique or interesting rather you should add only relevant and original content. The readers will be able to understand a concise research more easily, there should not be unnecessary details in the research.
Systematic: It means that research is structured with specified steps to be taken in a specified sequence in accordance with the well defined set of rules. Systematic characteristic of the research does not rule out (discard, prevent) creative thinking but it certainly does reject the use of guessing and intuition arriving at conclusions.
Logical: This implies that research is guided by the rules of logical reasoning and the logical process of induction and deduction are of great value in carrying out research. Induction is the process of reasoning from a part to the whole whereas deduction is the process of reasoning from the premise. In fact, logical reasoning makes research more meaningful in the context of decision making.
Every step of the research study is important. Negligence in any step can affect the complete study and not just that part. There are certain characteristics that are necessary in every research, these characteristics make the research a valid and generalizable study. Having just information and data is not enough for good research paper.
there are some qualities of good research paper to present it in proper way are :
dense knowledge about the research work input, good presentation of reviews, good communication on the method and results and well presented conclusion about the work.
originality, deep description of a systematic methodology, findings related to the data collected, and last but not least, the research position among the discussed literature review.
Dear Praneeth Silva ideally, a good research paper presents novel findings. It should also have a full story. Thus it is important that the paper does not report only fragmented or incomplete results. It should also be written in good scientific English.
This is a great question that you have raised. It is great because different people will come up with different answers and each answer can have different interpretation.
Now let me tell you my answer.
You know, I have a peculiar habit. I try to judge the importance of anything by the future it aims to bring for us. So when I go through a research article, I think that article should instigate some future scope of research. I try to understand that and I think that is the most important quality of a good research paper.
In my thesis and dissertations, throughout my life, I had always written about the future scope of the research under the heading "Importance of the Current Research". Probably most people will not agree with me. But that is the way I think. You know, why I think this way? I think this way because most us are doing everything not for the current but for the future. It also reminds me of a great saying of Voltaire. He said that none of us are living today, all of us are expecting to live one day.
Research Methodology is the lifeblood of a research. Once it gets wrong or turns out to be inappropriate, other sections like Analysis, Results and Discussion will have to be carried out again.
