Sustainable mountain development in the Hindu Kush Himalayan Region faces enormous (and all the time more difficult) challenges. Four of the 8 most populated countries in the world, including the top two, belong to the region: they are the People's Republic of China, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, in decreasing order, of which three have intermediate fertility (2.1 to 5 children). Another regional country, Afghanistan, has high fertility (5 or more children). The region contains the largest body of ice (17%) outside the Polar caps but the Himalayan glaciers are receding faster than anywhere else. Climate change will aggravate the region's socioeconomic and environmental challenges. The demographic challenge to the region, which has transformed it from a nature-dominated landscape into a human-dominated environment, will accelerate environmental degradation and natural resource use; it will exacerbate the vulnerability of mountain communities from increasing demands for biodiversity, energy, food, and water.

Climate change is a reality, but the process is very slow. Some people are confusing it with global warming, a big contributor to climate change. It will effect developed and developing countries equally. Developing world may not be able to cope with the situation properly and will be affected more negativily.
We have conducted a study in Himalayan region. If interested, click it.

Many developing and developed nations will be affected by climate change and we are already seeing the consequences in many ways (glaciers receding, usual rain patterns altered, sea level rising, and many other manifestations in flora and fauna. The trans-Himalayan region with its great variety of climates and biodiversity will be strongly affected in my opinion.
Due to climate change adversely the lower southern part of the world especially Indian subcontinent eg. Nepal will not be benefitted in most of the cases. But, Innovative ideas such as Sustainable fish production, ecotourism can be formulated. Food security can be accelerated by creating different climate change resistance verities. Agriculturist, FAO can play key role regarding these.
Dear Sujan Prasad Gautam, for sharing your interesting research. It would be of great interest to know about other research performed in mountain ranges that can have some similarities and whose impact on glaciers and rivers can be very significant, such as in the Andean region in South America.
