Hi! I'm synthesizing MgAl-NO3-, MgAl-Cl-, MgAl-CO32-, etc. by coprecipitation method using metal nitrate salts, NaOH, and anion source coming from sodium salts.
Besides those characteristic peaks of LDH, there are always small peaks at 14.3 and 28.4 which I believe it is from NaOH residue.
I've tried to improve the purification process. Particularly, for 1g of LDH, I washed them 5 times with 500ml of DI water each time (2.5L in total), then filtered and washed the filter cake with another 250ml of DI water. I tested with pH paper, it was neutral all the time.
I've also tried to filter then wash the cake multiple times following other articles, those peaks still present.
Could anyone suggest what it is and how to eliminate those peaks?

you may share your pattern.
What is your sample support. These peaks may arise from it.
You should perform an XRD scan without the net sample material but with your sample support. For example the peak around 28° may arise from Si(111).

I checked the peaks of the sample supports. The peaks are not coming from them.
I also attached an SEM image of strange particles beside LDH plates.
