As you know, adsorption is one of the steps of the catalytic reaction that include (external diffusion, internal diffusion, adsorption, surface reaction, desorption, and diffusion of the products).
A material can behave as a catalyst when the enthalpy of adsorption is not too high in order to prevent the permanent adsorption, however, it must be high enough to give the required residence time for the surface reaction.
