You may have heard of or seen a number of refugee camps. In recent times, I have heard of the refugee camps a lot in various contexts.
In your opinion what are the most serious issues / problems that may arise in a refugee camp and how can we (as academic community) try and help them by solving these problems?
Most serious problems/issues are fast foods/water and waste disposal. Fast foods because food stuffs are not normally available, while cooking facilities are rare. Waste disposals is connected with feeding and metabolisms. Wastes include packaging wastes (food wrappers), disposables and human wastes.
I think we should do some surveys and understand how they think and what they expect. I think most of the time, we just do not understand what they think and want.
I think there are many issues in a refugee camp:
Human issues: e.g. security of food, drinking water, housing, etc.
social issues: e.g. family ties, neighbours, children, education, etc.
environmental issues: e.g. waste disposal.and management.
health issues: sanitary, medicine, doctors, nursery, hospitals. etc.
Illiteracy, malnutrition, lack of a political and administrative support.
The most persistent problem are widespread poverty, chronic lack of resources to address and nobody's baby attitude.

Thanks for the question. For me, the most serious problem is drinking water and edible food, thus a system should be made to gurantee everyone will get his/her share.
A very good question. There is no doubt a lot of problems in a large refugee camp but in my opinion the lack of clean water supply is one major problem that leads to poor standard of general hygiene. Therefore, a cost-effective system where clean water can easily be accessed immediately should be available at all refugees camp.

What are the feares of the people's the occident in relation the refugees sirios? I don't' speak only of the countries of Europe, but also of the others countries how Unidos States and Brazil, that dont develop more actions of help, when could do more.
I don't speak of governement, but of iniciatives of more citizies.
