What are the most recent host modulation therapies indicated in treatment of aggressive periodontitis? I am working on the anti-oxidant role of host modulation therapy.
The concept of host modulating therapies targets restoring the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators. Thus, therapeutic options include anti-inflammatory agents. Indeed, anti-oxidants could have a role. In my opinion, platelets rich plasma can be promising as it contains growth factors and healing promoters. In addition, you may consider microbiome modifying therapy; probiotics or prebiotics or both.
There is ongoing research on using Teriparatide which is brand new osteoporosis medication that might have some effects on bone loss due to periodontal disease if used topically.
Concerning Teriparatide, would you give us more details about the form, dose, duration ... etc ... In addition, does it have a proven clinical relevance? If yes, you can mention the study.
I would say that if you can convert the bacteria in the pocket from an unhealthy bacterial mix to a healthy bacterial mix, the inflammatory reaction will take care of itself.
Hi Dr. Enas, lot of thanks to you my dear colleague;
I know that changing the bacteria in the pocket from an unhealthy bacterial mix to a healthy bacterial mix, is the mainstay for proper periodontal control based on controlling the many underlying mechanisms. Oxidative stress is on of these underlying mechanisms. Probiotics are among the means that could be successfully used, in addition to some recent advances. Thank you again hoping more co-operation.
