Hi all, I was looking through some databases for XRD, and wanted to ask which ones are more prestigious/prominently used ones. I see ICSD claiming itself as World's largest XRD database and it's free of charge to institution users, and ICDD offers PDF-4 as paid service and my institute uses it, Which ones are better and what're their differences?
I don't think either prestige nor prominence is a useful measure.
"PDF-4+ 2023 contains 480,300+ entries. It combines the world’s largest sources of inorganic diffraction data from crystals and powders into a single database."
"ICSD is an information service in crystallography and comprises the world’s largest database for fully identified inorganic crystal structures." and "ICSD now contains 272,260 crystal structures"
One thing to consider is that the ICDD PDF-4 database includes the following (notice that set 01 is in fact the ICSD):
