In nature there are very few natural compounds with anthelmintic properties, what is the best guideline for the selection of natural compounds to be screened as anthelmintic drugs? what are the most important functional groups suitable for this activity?
I think the inhibition efficacy of the compounds against the acetate-succinate CoA-transferase can be a good criteria.
Additionally, 3D-QSAR analysis on the athelimintic drugs can give a useful pharmacophore model for this kind of compounds.
Natural products from iridoid glycosides class have shown promising antihelminthic activity. You have to find other products especially alkalod based to come to generalization for a pharmacophore! Approaches in SAR (you don't have to run syntheses now!) and particularly QSAR will be lot helpful to conclude your problem-point.
In my opinion, there are different classes of natural products that show anthelmintic activity, like alkaloids, lacton containing compounds.
So, if you interested with such activity, you have to follow the review for biological active species and screen for their other genera, which may be has the same activity.
