First remind them this is not high school, thus studies have to be taken seriously and lots of time needs to be spent doing homework and reading. At the same time I would encourage them to make sure they take care of their body and get good rest. I also give them the secret formula: if you want to be an A student, spend 4 hours studying for every 1 hour of instruction, if you want to be a B student spend 3 Horus per 1 hour of lecture, etc.... an approximate formula but this send the message.
