There is criticism that the education and research that in many cases is offered in universities is not as relevant as it could be. Some companies even offer their own education and training because of this. What do you think are the more common types of knowledge used by professionals, and what research is therefore required?
Many people, who acquire and extend their practical experience in operational personnel management in seminars, write a book about it after some time. If the book is good, it usually leads to a teaching position at the university. I see here rather cycles instead of a frowning position of industry and university.

Hello. Yes Mr. Hein you may have come across some scenarios in universities which value such professionals and make them part of their team. But in my experience, there is a huge gap between what is being taught and what industry requires, simply because the teaching personnel are teaching their students what they were taught in their university life; They have little or no professional experience. Hence the observation as noted by my friend Kjartan Skogly Kversøy .

I think one of the ways universities can do a good job is to enable students to make their own frameworks (and therefore empower them); to be able to organise themselves in how to imbibe organisational knowledge. We recently had seminars in our university where two fresh inductees in a big company came to share their experience of how, in their selection, there were other facets which were given preference and high weight-age like how they work in teams, how they present and communicate their ideas because in the end these are valuable skills required by industry no matter how much technical knowledge one has. Now universities can guide students to work on these skills by promoting debates, workshops which are led by students themselves.

Yes, in fact, I taught at a technical university where such an exchange is a matter of course in the natural science and technical subjects. Many master and doctoral theses have research topics that are financed by industry, many graduates who have worked on a certain topic and graduated, then continue working in the laboratories of industry, in trade it is similar, with topics about personnel management, communication, ecological topics, it is also common in the area of state-public employers to cooperate with subjects from the social sciences, also in educational science.
It is a bit too one-sided to always complain that the universities provide training with little practical relevance. This can be the case at a certain point in time in a certain field. But there are constant adjustment processes, because the future-oriented companies do not expect a university graduate to be well versed in certain types of software, but to tackle theoretically demanding problems, so that the short-term - alleged - practical blindness - is only the dark side of the coin for a bright concept developed in the long term, which requires a little more oversight than pure practical experience, whether a screw has to be screwed into a piece of wood or metal to the left or right.
