for many years I've been using a biographical critical incidents approach as outlined in Tripp, D.H. (1993) Critical incidents in teaching: developing professional judgement. London and New York: Routledge (The 2011 edition has a new preface on reflection and action research and is now published in the Routledge Classics of Education series).
I use several different teaching processes, but there's a brief outline of one workshop teaching process at the end of the (2011) preface, and an (unpub) account of the teaching process attached. I like to follow this up with the induction of general principles of practice, and then an action learning process for implementation.
