To my knowledge, there is no direct marker in SCD patients which can be studied for vaso occlusive crisis. Most of the markers such as cytokines and other inflammatory molecules are indirect and as also present in non SCD pathogenesis. Is anybody knew about specific markers of vaso occlusive crisis in SCD patients blood samples ?
I guess neutrophils, LDH, reticulocytes and platelets can be considered as "direct" markers. However, these cells occlude the post-capillary venules using these adhesion molecules and cytokines. If however , you refer to predictors, then I guess certain genetic genes as well as long chain fatty acid (omega-3 ffas), will definitely feature.

There are no specific markers for vaso occlusive crisis of sickle cell disease.
To my knowledge there is no direct marker for evaluation of vaso occlusive crisis. Whatever markers are suggested are indirect markers.
