Given the ever increasing number of different Journals and Conference events, one may notice that there are authors whose citation are solicited by colleagues as a favor for citations in return. There are cases where publications in high impact Journals or Conferences were paid for up to $3.000,- US dollars. Some authors somehow manage to "publish" over fourteen or even more publications in English per year with research subject quite distant from theirs, plus they do not speak nor write in English at all, which is quite remarkable. Common practice some years back, would suggest having one or two high impact publications per year was a expected outcome for most of the academics. It appears that norms on how many publications are expected per year may have shifted quite significantly. Some scholars suggest that this may be result of commercialization of scholastic works and business like educational establishment where academic and research quality with rigor are somewhat adopted to this new trend.
