Hello there,

Multi-phase flow metering is useful and can save a lot of time and effort (especially in production testing of oil or condensate wells).

I have read and heard some feedback from couple of operation guys who do not recommend them.

What are the limitations and the science behind that? Is it related to assumptions in flow regimes made to simplify the governing equations and solving for the unknown (Q)?

I have also read long time ago that the higher the difference between velocities of the components (oil, gas and water) the less accurate the results are.

Please share your experience/thoughts/understanding of the topic.

Many thanks in advance,
