Do you consider these two incidents as similar phenomenon?  According to my understanding, the colonialism has completely different impact to the liberation movements. I am not aware about African situation, but in the Asia, some of positive impacts of colonialism include improvements in the areas of infrastructure ( road, railway transport), education, health etc with the introduction of governance mechanisms ( as we call democratic system). In the meantime, the resource exploitation, cultural enforcement etc can be considered as negative impacts.
