What are your sources for the assertion that women are loathe to orientate to oncoming pedestrians? What I am getting at, is your evidence cross-cultural?

The problem which you try to investigate is difficult, but questions which you ask are are very correct and very interesting! I was interested in them from other point of view, namely from point of view of differences of frequency of a left-handedness and a right-handedness among men and women (they differ). In this respect there are some points of view and scientific concepts, but such gender distinctions really, have to exist. Whether they are caused evolutionarily? Perhaps, also perhaps a later features of behavior gave such distinctions. Look for answers to your questions which concern left-right-handedness and distinctions of functional asymmetry of a brain at men and women, but naturally it isn't enough guarantees.

I am trying to replicate the original study of Collett, and Marsh (1981).  Patterns of Public Behaviour: Collision Avoidance on a Pedestrian Crossing.

It is not a cross-cultural study however, our results which supports the original study, shows a  significant association in pedestrian passing behaviour and gender differences in collision avoidance. Female pedestrians are more likely to do a closed (arm across breast) pass when avoiding collision than male pedestrians.

My interest is to investigate the underlying factor(s) influencing the passing behaviour.

Your point on the issue of left-right-handedness is quite interesting and a valid point especially; when some stats indicate a very high proportion of British citizens are left-handed. However, if it is a factor, it should also reflect on the passing behaviour of both sexes. It is worth exploring further though.
