Fabrication cost of different nano-particles ( specially metal) with different shapes (sphere, cube, prism. etc) and different structure such as core and shell. I am concern about nano-particles ( mainly Spheres, but prisms, rods, etc) not 1D, 2D structures
Fabrication cost wouldn't differ much if you proceed using standard templates (sol-gel) process.
Maybe I can help more if you could provide me with some details as to the exact shape/size required.
It depends on the process/ technique you use. Of course the sol-gel technique is a low cost process, only you have to buy the chemicals if you have the instruments.
I don't know exactly what nanoparticle are you referring to, it can be spherical, 1D or 2D (refer to my review paper for more info)
Regarding cost considerations,
1. Bottom up approach is more expansive than bottom down
2. Scalability: Usually, top down can produce nanomaterials in large scale (eg. Sol-gel or thermal treatments)
3. Disposal: A big concern is Australia, OHS and disposal of potentially hazardous nanomaterials may cost more if done in the right/ethical way
4. Apparatus required. Eg. Chemical treatments (oxidation, etching, etc.) are generally cheaper than cutting edge equipment (CVD or AFM)
Dear Perera, I think while asking question you had made a mistake since manufacturing of nanoparticles is not limited. I am not getting you properly.
Commonly I may suggest you for going with any bottom-up approach. In this approach only the costing of precursors with some initial equipment is been required, which you can easily afford. The suggested process may be beakers process i.e. sol-gel. Except this there are numerous processes
and moreover you are concern about nanoparticles but again you have asked about rods and all, Please clarify these things
the cost would be extremely affected by the cost of materials which you want to use in NP synthesis. Every thing might change when you scale up the process. Compare gold nanoparticles cost with that of organically modified montmorillonite. And also the technique is very important. catalytic reactions are almost more expensive.
