The combustion tube was refilled by the ex-technician that was working on my CHNS Analyzer, but after 50 runs the tube was broken, I’m wondering about the expected reason? We must consider the following aspects:
1- The amounts of the reagents were not quite fit
2- When I cleaned the damaged tube I didn’t find the quartz wool separating the two reagents and I don’t know if he was used quartz wool for the separation, is it necessary?
3- The quartz wool positioned in bottom of the tube is not new (reused more than one time)

Reasons for a tube to break if it’s a quartz tube,
1)can be that the measured sample contains many minerals or salts.
2)Cycling the tube in temperature, for every time the tube passes a temperature from 650 and 750°C micro-fractures can occur. Either cooling down or heating up.
3) Lastly if the tube was not cleaned from grease or acids when installing it.

Cyclic stress generated by change in pressure due to combustion can lead to failure of the tube.
