I'd like to find as much as possible, information about biological fluorescence, luminescence or other easily detected property (color, etc.). Please don't answer with example of luciferase pathway, as well as common green/red fluorescent proteins and their mutants; everybody knows about them. Just please give example, which only your extremely narrow field knows. Thanks!
there are the light-harvesting phycobiliprotein family. These can be extracted from bacteria, and are also pretty fluorescent in the red spectra. But i guess they are not as unique, quite a lot of papers on it.
Then you also have insect fluorescence, mainly spiders and scorpion, with fluorescent compounds. They are usually more fluorescent towards the UV.

Many organisms have fluorescence: scorpions, lichens, algae, flower's pollen, bacteria like Pseudomona.
The Group of Prof. Yampolsky from Moscow ,Russia, recently found the Luciferin of the Siberian Luminous Earthworm. It is a completly new Luciferine.

Instead of using biomaterials try with nano materials having fluorescence may be a better alternative. For example Gold nano spheres of below 5nm have appreciable fuorescence and it may enter the nucleus of the cell.
