Your question contains a trap. There are very hot topics that can fall quickly into limbo. However, I see sectors of activity that suffer from chronic delays. There are some beautiful research topics.

I think there is no one answer to your question :

- In which field do you want to make your SCM research? I mean in which industry (manufacturing, humanitarian, etc.).

- Researches depend also on the context to support your research question. I mean by this point strategies and policies in the country from where you will collect your data

- ...

So to respond briefly to your question, I think that there are many hot topics in SCM such as Information Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Modelling, etc.

Organisations are currently competing more as supply chains, therefore something towards competitive advantage in procurement will scratch a lot of itches. Look more into circular economy and triple bottom line as well
