In Bangladesh, though people are very eager to research on language instead of literature but some university teachers offer their new researcher @as well as make research on Indian English Literature.
Literature is like an ocean. Your interest determines the area you study and write on. Therefore, you find some of my people writing on feminism; others write on ecocriticism, Afro-American literature, British literary history and so on. The second mentioned topic is mainly from people who feel that oil exploration is destroying their land. But people like me emphasise the relevance of oral tradition. However, that does not mean that you will not find some of my works on American literature, feminism, neo-colonialism, et cetera.
Thank you all for your answers. I can see that the “trending topics” are similar everywhere these days. In Brazil, for instance, gender related issues have dominated conferences for quite some time now, so much so I’ve had a hard time finding conferences related to other subjects, for they tend to be restrictedly thematic. For me, it has been sort of a problem, since I don’t research gender. Publishing research papers both in my country or abroad, though, has been pretty different. Has anyone been in a similar situation?
My wife is a distinguished scholar of the work of Elizabeth Bishop. When I asked my granddaughter, a recent college grad, why she thought Bishop's poetry was so popular in colleges these days, she said, because of gender and post colonial connections. Not at all the reasons for admiring her poems. The wrong reasons.
