you can use it for data compression such as Huffman coding, context based coding. In electronics also it is used in circuit theory for mesh and nodal analysis etc.

Discrete mathematics is used for building mathematical flow models. In oil and gas industry, fluid flow is simulated using computational flow dynamics governing equation (specifically Navier-Stokes equation). These equations are second order non-linear differential equations and thus discrete mathematics is used to simulate the flow/approximate the solution of fluid flow.

I agree with Dr Ljubomir Jacić, it can be automata theory. Basically it is more generalized and systematic method to solve any problem. All the possibilities of variable relation can be expressed in graph or tree form and dependency is shown by level or distance from root. As an example in logic design, we are finding all the possible relation between variable with others and used to simplify logical relation for any specific application.
